"stock" is a general term used to describe the ownership certificates of any company,and "share" refers to a the ownership certificates of a particular company.
stock可指任何公司的股票,股份.有些人容易误解股票和股份,觉得股票小,股份大其实在国际金融中它们指的都是一样的事物.持有某公司的股票就是持有它的股份也就是它的股东无论是大是小,但share则用来特指某一公司的股票,股份.
也就是说这两个单词指的事物是完全一样的,区别在于它所指不同.
就象cats猫 Chinese cats中国的猫,其实它们都是猫,而说cats全世界哪里的猫都可以,而Chinese cats指是就是中国这个国家的猫.而猫跟猫其实都是同一种事物.
虽然区别是有的,但现在象这样的区别渐渐被模糊了,在国际上差不多是随便用的情况,所以很多以英语为母语的人也分不清这两上单词的区别.

share偏向于指股份，作为股份的意思可以从其本意“分享”来理解，股票是由股东来分别持有的,所以才能引申为股份来讲
而stock偏重于指股票这种金融工具,一般正式的股票交易都是说的stock exchange，还有股票经纪人stock stroker
