第一,新GRE四大变化
按照美国教育服务中心(ETS)的安排,在中国举行的首场新GRE普通考试将于2011年8月8日开考,2011年3月15日起开始接受报名.对中国考生来说,新GRE考试呈现出四大变化.
◇变化1统一全球收费结构
中国考生缴纳的考试费将接轨国际标准,消除了以往因参加分开考试所导致的价格差；
◇变化2笔试改为机考
取消GRE分开考试,中国考生将来可在一天之内在计算机上完成GRE语文、数学和写作三个部分的考试；
◇变化3考生将获得更多考试机会
新GRE普通考试推出后,每月将固定举行1-2次考试；
◇变化4新GRE在考试中取消语文部分的类比和反义题,增加两类新题型
在考试的每一部分增设预看、回顾与答案修改功能以及增设在线计算器等.
为推广即将于2011年8月实行的新GRE考试,ETS将于2011年8月1日至9月30日期间为所有参加考试的个人考生限时减免50%的考试费用.考生可在2011年11月中旬收到分数报告.考生若想在2011年11月前拿到考试成绩,则要在2011年8月前参加现行的GRE考试.
第二,新版GRE考试在整体难度持平的基础上,对考生高级认知能力要求更强.考试所需单词的个数有所下降,但是对每个单词的具体意思要求更为细腻.以语文为例,新版GRE考试分别新增了一类段落填空题与等价填空题.所谓等价填空题就是将现有的填空题目与类比反义题目相结合,将现有的填空题目由5选1改为了6选2,要求考生选对符合句意单词的同时还要找准一对同义词.而对于段落填空题,其变化较现在的填空题目更大.主要体现在其长度往往有现在的短阅读那么长,而其中的逻辑线索也变得日趋隐晦.
第三,新增的阅读题目对于短文章的要求能力变得更高.题目当中会频繁出现更为短小精悍的文章.所以考生需要能够在短时间内提取文章有效信息并作出正确的逻辑判断.
第四,语文部分是本次GRE考试改革力度最大的一个环节.变化首先体现在做题时间和题量上.一方面每个单元的时间从原先的30分钟延长到35分钟一个单元,题目数量却从38道题骤减到25题.这就意味着考生将能够更加从容地分配时间,不必像过去那样争分夺秒地答题,甚至冒着被取消成绩的危险跨区答题了.
第五,新GRE与现行GRE的最大区别在于加大了顶尖考生的区分度.由于新GRE数学部分预计前25%的百分位数将对应约15个分数级,对于数学成绩一直处于顶尖水平的中国考生来说是一个利好消息,但伴随而来的是,数学部分题目难度加大,一些数学基础不太好的学生,可能要投入更多的精力来准备考试.
