Today I’d like to begin with a sentence by Tomas Edison---if you wish to succeed,you should use persistence as your good friend,experience as your reference,prudence as your brother and hope as your sentry.That’s to say,success or miracle cannot be defined by one or two definitions but still more.So I don’t believe perseverance will make miracles.If you want to do be successful or make miracles,three things you have to do.
The first one is to accept failures.Hemingway once said:“A man can be destroyed but never be defeated”.J.K.Rowling's first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published.And Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team and lost hundreds of games during his NBA career,but he said:"I have failed over and over and over again in my life,and that's why I made miracles”.These people could succeed because they knew you wouldn’t let your failures define you but let them teach you and remind you.
The second one is to seize opportunity.Ladies and gentlemen,are you familiar to Supper Girls or American Idol?If there was not that opportunity,those talents maybe are still unknown to the public.And I think that’s why we are standing here today----we want to earn more personal experience through practicing our oral English and sharing our opinions with all the judges and audience here.If we fear failures and lose this opportunity,we will lose such a wonderful stage on which we can recognize ourselves,surpass ourselves and eventually make a miracle for ourselves.
The last one is to face challenges.Helen Keller shows us life is not a continuum of pleasant choices but of inevitable challenges that call for the strength,determination and hard work.Please let me quote Forrest Gump,who was unfortunately born with lower IQ and muscle problems.In this case,may be you,maybe you and may be all of you would think that this kind of person can’t be success in doing anything.But instead,to everybody’s surprises,this unlucky man has made a lot of incredible miracles and still got married and had a baby—lovely bay.So life is challenge,not only to our individuals but to all the nations.The financial crisis,wealth gap,international terrorism,the eco-environmental problems,all of those are now threatening this world and requiring us to face more,care more and make more miracles.
